Part One: The Goal
When we first spoke with the homeowner, they needed more usable living space but didn’t want to take on a full interior remodel. Their current layout didn’t offer a comfortable place to relax, entertain, or enjoy the outdoors year-round.
Our goal was to create a four seasons room that feels open and filled with natural light, while still functioning as a fully conditioned indoor space. It had to feel like a natural extension of the home, not something added on later.
Some issues with their outdoor space...
Less functionality
Existing living areas felt limited, making the home less functional for daily family activities and hosting guests.
Lack dedicated living area
The home lacked a dedicated space for relaxing, entertaining, or enjoying the backyard views year-round.
Part Two: The Design and Planning
We approached this as a full addition designed around light, openness, and flow. From the start, we focused on creating a strong indoor-outdoor connection.
One of the key features we incorporated was an accordion-style exterior door system. This allows the wall to open up into a wide 6-foot opening, which completely changes how the space feels and functions.
To make that possible, we carefully planned the structural support to handle the larger opening while maintaining stability and energy efficiency. We also selected materials that match the existing home, so the finished space blends in seamlessly.
Old concrete and foundation materials are carefully removed to prepare the site for the new addition and ensure a stable base for construction.
A newly poured concrete foundation is protected with waterproofing and drainage stone, helping prevent moisture intrusion and supporting the long-term durability of the four-season room.
The four-season room begins taking shape as engineered framing and insulated wall components are installed, creating the structural framework for the new living space.
Part Three: The Time Schedule
We made sure everything was clear and transparent at all times, including the schedule.
